My earliest memory of an artistic activity is of my mother sketching various objects around the house, including my grandfather's tobacco pipes. She was a naturally talented sketch artist and later in her life became an accomplished oil painter. She recently passed away at the ripe old age of ninety-seven.
I have always had an interest in art, and dabbled in fashion photography years ago, but life got in the way and left little time to pursue art. I retired a few years ago and now have the opportunity to devote a fair amount of time to oil painting. My favorite subject is the horse - elegant, powerful animals. I am self-taught and probably break most of the traditional rules when it comes to oil painting.
The RRP exists to facilitate the placement of Thoroughbred ex-racehorses in second careers by increasing demand for them in equestrian sports and serving the farms, trainers, and organizations that transition them. The Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) is a 501(c)3 charitable organization working to increase demand for off-track Thoroughbreds beyond racing. In addition to producing the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, the world’s largest and most lucrative retraining competition for recently-retired racehorses, the organization also maintains an educational library of content to empower more equestrians to ride a Thoroughbred, offers the only Thoroughbred-only online horse listings, and conducts clinics and seminars throughout the country.
